Living a Magical Life

Growing up in the mountains of Pennsylvania, Matthew Sawicki knew from a very young age that he was destined to become a witch.

“I could always feel the changing of the seasons in my bones – I could smell the Fall coming in August,” Sawicki says. “That is how the Craft resonates in the witch’s bloodline.”

Sawicki’s journey to becoming a Witch and eventually ending up reading Tarot cards in the East Village of New York City started after a high school teacher noticed his interest in the occult and gave him an article on witchcraft in NYC.

“It was an article on Enchantments and former co-owner Carol Bulzone,” Sawicki says.  “When I saw her photo, I felt like I knew her and had to meet her.”

Sawicki began writing to her and soon after found himself working at the original Enchantments on Ninth Avenue.  Under Bulzone’s tutelage, he became an accomplished Tarot reader  – and witch.

He described his time there as a “true Harry Potter experience.”

“I was making potions and reading Tarot during the day then going home to study in the evenings,” he says. “It was a magical life.”

Sawicki has developed a large clientele over the years and even spent several years working in Los Angeles, reading at Hollywood parties and events, before returning to New York.  “Los Angeles was fun, but I am an East Coast kid,” he says.

As a reader, Sawicki says that tends to get clients who stay with him and whom he gets to know very well.

“Once I establish rapport with a client, the cards become secondary,” he says.  “When a long-term client calls on the phone, I just start talking.  I immediately know what is going on.”

Sawicki said that he is more interested in establishing a relationship with clients who “want to do the work,” rather than the “cash cow” clients that may psychics take.

“if a person is not moving forward, then I will recommend that they go to someone else,” he says. “My goal is to get my clients to make positive changes and improve their lives.  I show up and they need to show up.  Otherwise, it becomes just a form of psychotherapy.”

Sawicki was initiated into the New York Coven of Witches, Minoan Brotherhood, and also a traditional witch coven from the United Kingdom.

He credits his involvement with traditional witchcraft as improving his psychic and mediumship skills. He says that he regularly calls upon his ancestors and other spirits during his readings.

“I have lived life, so there are no expectations and I don’t care what your background is,” he says. “As long as you do the work with me to remove blockages from leading a happy and successful life.”
